about
This song was written in November 2023 in response to the Conservative UK government imprisoning peaceful climate protestors.
Suella Braverman's severe amendments to the Public Order Bill,
(which were slipped in using secondary legislation),
have been called 'deeply troubling' by the UN who have urged the UK to repeal these laws.
The police currently have the power to shut down any protest.
In July 2023 the prime minister Rishi Sunak pushed back the UK's climate targets & licensed over 100 new oil and gas drilling operations in the North Sea... 1 month after his wife's family firm INFOSYS signed a 1billion pound deal with BP.
PROCEEDS FROM THE SALES OF THIS TRACK WILL GO TO CLIMATE CHARITIES.
lyrics
'DON'T TAKE THE FUTURE AWAY'
Our daughters didn't oughta
have to get themselves arrested
'cause the governments invested
in the opening of new oil fields
As mothers, and fathers
we would rather that they listen
not just send our kids to prison
'cause they care about the world
Let's get real, this is how we feel
Don't take the future away
don't let our young people pay
there must be some other way to change things
And now the future is near, and it's a future we fear
we need somebody to hear and change things
No mystery, through history
it is often people saying no
who've shown the world the way to go
and so it will remain
We all know that the time's come
so then why's the world relying on
these kids who should be having fun
well here we are again
Let's get real, this is how we feel
(La la...)
Don't take the future away
don't let our young people pay
there must be some other way to change things
And now the future is near, and it's a future we fear
we need somebody to hear and change things
Now today, now today
